Meeting More Family

Image
Last night we had a family dinner at your Great Grandpa Guy and Great Grandma Debbie Cox’s house. It was the first time for most of the Cox family to meet you. Great-Grandma Deb is very ill. Nobody knows exactly what is going on with her. She was diagnosed with multiple myeloma (a form of bone cancer) over 15 years ago. She had to go thru really intense treatments, including a stem cell transplant. She really hasn’t ever been very healthy since then. But she was still traveling and things until about 2 years ago. Recently she has been really struggling with her memory. She also has other dementia symptoms where she will get very agitated and angry or feel very paranoid. It has changed her personality. She was such a wonderful grandma when your mom was little. Oh, she adored her first granddaughter so much! After having all boys herself, she was so excited not only to be having a grandchild but especially a girl! She planned all kinds of girly things to do with your mom an...

FaceTime

Image
Often your mom will call me or I’ll call her on FaceTime. I wonder if FaceTime will still even be a thing when you’re old enough to read this? Anyway, your mom will show me your cute outfits and I will talk to you. You always look around a bit confused because I don’t think you can see me on the phone yet, but you hear my voice. Yesterday I took these screenshots while Grandpa and I were talking to you and your mom. You look so cute together!

Just because…

Image
I’m including these photos simply because you’re so cute. Your dad went golfing so your mom came over to hang out with us. You’re just the cutest thing! You are trying so hard to make sounds/talk that you use your whole body as you struggle. I can see your brain just working away, trying to figure out the right connections so that you can communicate. We talked and smiled. We cuddled. We went for a little walk. And we napped. Some people think that newborns are boring. I love every stage of infancy and am so grateful I get to spend time with you! You fill my heart with joy!

Smiling!

So, you are officially “social” smiling now. Your eyesight is good enough that you can focus on faces and will make eye contact. Yesterday I watched you while your mom went to a physical therapy appointment. I put you in the baby wrap and took you outside with me to water the flowers. You kept smiling. You love to be outside. Then we came in and had a nap. Lila took these photos. Afterwards we went with Miles and Lila back to your apartment to the pool. Grace fed you and put you into a onesie. We didn’t stay too long because it was the hottest day of the summer so far and also Miles had a drum lesson we had to get back for. But you were so fun the whole time. I was talking to you and you were smiling and concentrating and trying so hard to speak! You actually did make a few little cooing sounds for the first time! It was so cute! Oh, also, they said we shouldn’t really be able to determine your eye color, but they always look quite blue to us. And…yesterday while you were...

Your Mama

Image
I think you are very lucky to have my Grace Taylor for a mom. I’m a little biased because she is my first child. But she loves you so much and really wants to be the best mom ever. This was kind of a crazy time in her life to be having a baby, but we know that there were angels watching over her and over you! On Thursday, April 24th, Grandpa and I went to BYU to watch your mom’s graduation from nursing school. She has known she wanted to be a nurse since she was a little girl. And she has worked so hard. So this was a very special day! Afterwards, your gramps and I took your parents to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. I don’t know if it will continue, but at least during her pregnancy with you, your mom LOVED this certain Asian chicken salad they have there. She wanted to eat it all the time. Of course, you were born the next week on 5-2-25. Then your mom just needed a break for a week or so. But then it was time for her to get back to work studying for the NCLEX. This is th...

Grandpa J

Image
Today is Father’s Day. You and your parents came over for dinner. I think your Grandpa’s favorite part of the evening was just holding you. Your eyesight has developed more and you can focus on faces and are making a lot of eye contact. Grandpa loves you so much. Here are some of my favorite photos I’ve taken of the two of you together: These are photos from today. You were trying so hard to talk to him! Your mom and I painted the bottom of your foot to make a special card for your dad and for Grandpa. I’m excited to see your relationship continue to develop with your Grandpa. He’s a pretty amazing guy and he adores his little Sophie!

First Photo Shoot

I came over to your apartment when you were one week old to do a little photo shoot. You are the most beautiful baby! Here are some of the photos: We used these photos to create a birth announcement/thank you card. Here is how it turned out:
